About Lemuria: Festival of Ghosts

Lemuria: Festival of Ghosts is a free social event that invites UQ students to see the RD Milns Antiquities Museum in a different light.

Join us after dark for an evening of costumes, pizza, drinks (non-alcoholic), and stories of the underworld. Attendees will be treated to a talk, "Super Strong and Scarily Silly: Hercules in the Haunted World", by Associate Lecturer and resident film buff, Tyla Cascaes.

This talk follows Hercules on an adventure into the underworld by examining the film Hercules in the Haunted World (1961). Join us as we take a closer look at how this cinematic treatment of Hercules blends elements of antiquity with conventions of peplum and horror films, in putting our hero’s strength to the test against undead enemies.

The event is presented in partnership with The University of Queensland's Classics and Ancient History Society, Advanced Humanities Society and Archaeological Society. This event is supported by a grant from the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Student Futures team.

Numbers are strictly limited, so register to secure your spot today!
